Francis Goya, born François Weyer on 16 may 1946 to Cork, in Belgium, is a guitarist and concert performer Belgian.
The son of musician parents, he was offered his first guitar at the age of 12. At 16, Francis Goya formed his first band (Les Jivaros) with his drummer brother and a few friends. In 1966 he meets vocalist Lou who joins Francis' rock band, The Liberty Six with Patrick Ruymen(Lou will later produce the artist Plastic Bertrand and will compose the song for him That Plane For Me which became a worldwide success.
In 1970 Francis Goya is hired by a professional soul music group the JJ Band with which he recorded two albums, the second of which was produced by Brian Bennett, the drummer of The Shadows. This LP is registered at London for the firm CBS. Thanks to the JJ Band, Francis Goya goes on tour throughout theEurope and theAfrica.
It also becomes guitarist studio and also accompanies various artists on stage such as Demis Roussos, The Three Degrees, Vicky Leandros, and many others.
The click "Nostalgia"
In 1975, he records his first 45 rpm solo Nostalgia which will climb in all the hits parade. Nostalgia is a soft and romantic melody written by Francis Goya and his father. It was then that his international career would begin. He goes on tour around the world, fromAsia at theLatin America passing through theSouth Africa, the Russia, etc. Between each tour, he records at least one new album, to end up with more than 35 LPs and CDs, most of which will become gold record or platinum.
To date, Francis Goya has sold more than 28 million albums worldwide, which is rather rare in instrumental music. In 1991, Francis Goya conducts the orchestra of theEurovision to Rome for Luxemburg as well as in Ireland in 1993.
Latin American influences
Having always loved Latin American music, Francis Goya decided in 1991 to record alongside its instrumental music, a CD of Brazilian songs (Bahia Lady). The timbre of his voice and the warm sound of his guitar make a very good association which is very popular with the public.
He decides to continue in this way and records in 1992 and 1993 two more CD of the same style (Noche Latino and Festival Latino). 1994 will be the year of going back to basics with the recording of a new CD instrumental as well as a tour of around fifty concerts at The Netherlands. In 1996 a new CD music of the style new-age is saved (Gondwana).
In 1998 Françis Goya records the most beautiful songs of Jacques Brel which will be released on CD and will be distributed nationwideEurope. Will follow the album recorded in duet with Richard Clayderman.
An east wind
The album Moscow Nights recorded at Moscow was released in nineteen eighty one in all countries of the formerUSSR where it became a huge hit that made Francis Goya a Western star in Eastern Europe.
2000s
This is after twenty years of success in Eastern Europe that Francis Goya was invited in March 2001 to give a concert in Estonia, at the Tallinn Philharmonic Hall, accompanied by thechamber orchestra of Philharmonic Hall, directed by Jean-Luc Drion pianist and conductor, accomplice of Francis Goya for more than thirty years. This first concert was so successful that Francis Goya had to extend his stay in Estonia in order to give a second concert the next day at the same Philharmonic Hall.After this first experience in Estonia, Francis Goya decided to record an instrumental album including works written by the great composer Estonian Raimond Valgre. This album is still very successful in Estonia.
Likewise, the album Russian A Tribute To Alexandra Pakhmutova recorded at Saint PETERSBOURG is also distributed in Korea, to Taiwan and China. Building on his popularity, Francis Goya has since performed regularly on tours around the world.
In 2007 the group Safri Duo (Falling Hight) covers a sample of the song Tonight's the Night written by Françis Goya in 1976. In January 2008, Francis Goya decides to settle with his family in Marrakesh (Morocco) while continuing its galas at Canada, in South Africa, in Russia, in Estonia.
In 2010, Francis Goya opened his first music school Ateliers Art et Musique in Marrakech. In 2011, he created the Francis Goya Foundation for the cultural development of disadvantaged Moroccan children and adolescents 3 with the support of personalities: the Belgian ambassador to Morocco, the Belgian consul in Morocco and senior Moroccan state officials. IN 2013, China. In November 2014, a major tour took place in Russia, Moldova and Ukraine. In September 2015, Bulgaria. In April 2016, Israel.
In april 2017, Francis settled permanently in Andalusia, in Benahavis, near Marbella. The concerts continue. August 2021, Estonia, Lithuania and May 2022 Finland.
